Installing Modem Drivers for a Sanyo SCP-7050

I just upgraded my cell phone and wanted to be able to use it as a modem as well as update my contacts from my old phone with BitPim. I had my old Sanyo usb cable laying around but it took almost an hour of searching to find the drivers for this new phone. What I had to do was download the Sprint PCS Connection Manager and then only install the driver for Sanyo phones. I then plugged in my phone and it auto-detected it and found the drivers.

Yes, but did you get Bitpim working? I got the USB driver installed as well, but BITPIM still doesn't recognize the phone.

I can't even get the driver installed. The link in your original comment has been moved, so I end up at a "Sprint Software Store" page, where I can pick from a whole bunch of different versions of the connection manager (none of which mention Sanyo). I picked one of them - a 24MB download - and installed it. You mention installing only the Sanyo driver. I was given no option to install any particular drivers, and was not given an option to install just the drivers rather than the whole app. After installation, I still can't get either the Connection Manager or SnapLink (it's a BitPim-like application) to find the phone. In fact, when I plug the phone into the USB port, I get the Windows "New Hardware Found" dialog, but can't find the driver.

Any suggestions?

go to this site and download this for the scp 7050 should work for u

That page has nothing on it.

the page is empty

Yeah I've been having a VERY hard time trying to find the appropriate drivers for the 7050. I used to have the Sanyo 8100 and the drivers for that don't work for this... Also, will this phone work as the modem for my laptop or do I have to purchase and additional plan from Sprint? I already have unlimited vision.

Thanks!

hey krazy
thanks for letting me reg with your site!

I have a 7050 as well and have the drivers installed for the phone and it is detected and installed without any problems. i was wondering what phone config you used within bitpim in order to read/write to the phone? i have tried most of the model numbers close to the 7050 with auto comport detection and on the cell-modem comport. i have also tried the "other CDMA phone" on various coms. i use bitpim several times a day doing contact merges and ESN swaps so i know bitpim is functional. also, what version of bitpim are you using?

No, it doesn't help.

The package does contain drivers for the SCP-7050. They cannot be installed separately and are usable ONLY by the Sprint Connection Manager package. Specifically, even after driver installation BitPIM won't see the phone. Nor will DataPilot 3.8.1.

What's worse, Sprint Connection Manager has no local functionality. You can access phone data only if you have access to Sprint PCS Vision Network ($$$). It appears that Sprint is trying to lock free software out of its phones to force customers to pay to get at their own data. Mad

***removed*** SPCM only installs modem drivers for 7050 that's why you can't see it in BitPim.
