Christmas Traditions

I've been looking at various ideas for Christmas Traditions. Here are some good ones I've found so far.

We take the children to a nursing home with cookies and songs to share.

Our family sets up the manger scene on December 1st, but we place the wise men on the other side of the house. Every day as Christmas approaches, our children move the wise men closer to the manger. It's fun to see where the wise men appear each day as Christmas draws closer. I've found them staring back at me in the shower, on the way down the stairs, and in the flour canister!

Every night select a Christmas Card and pray together for the family that sent it.

Of course, Christmas would not be complete without a good Christmas story:
I remember this story as read by Paul Harvey. I believe that Grandpa Kyle sent a tape recording to our family in Alaska when we were little.

Peter's Christmas Eve Movie

Merry Christmas!
Christmas Eve Peter was really active and managed to scoot himself across the living room floor enough times for us to get some footage of it on Laura's camera and daddy got to play with iMovie and make it fancy. There are several options for download:
Huge Version 48 MB Suitable for showing in the theatre or for Grandparents
Medium Version 26 MB Suitable for most home viewing
Tiny Version 2MB Suitable for the impatient or slow of internet connection

Note: You might find it useful to right-click and download the file, then watch it.

The Long Awaited Christmas Stroller Picture

IMG_5000.jpg Using some of the time I have lying around in Yakima, I modified several strings of LED Christmas lights to run on 12V DC. These were wired to a 12V jumpstart pack. The LEDs just barely sip at the battery; I calculated roughly 30 hrs of burn time on a charge.

Other features of the stroller include PC speakers for tunes, LED flashlight headlights, blinking LED taillights, blinking LED lights on the back wheels (with seperate battery packs) and the best part, of course, a baby!

Thanksgiving Dressing (Robin Kyle)

1 bag Pepperedge Farm Seasoned cubes (Whole Wheat if you can find them)
1 package Lipton Garlic and Herb Soup Mix or 1 package Gravy Quik
2 t McKay's Chicken Seasoning
3/4 cup Butter (not margarine)
1-2 cups Mushrooms, fresh, sliced
1 cup Walnuts, chopped
1 cup Onions, diced
1 cup Celery, diced
2.5 cups Water
Brown the walnuts in 1/2 cup butter first. Then add onions, celery, mushrooms and remaining butter. Be careful, it burns easily. Sautee until onion and celery are soft and mushrooms are perfect. Remove from heat, add crumbs and toss to throughly mix. Put in casserole dish, mix water and Soup Mix, pour over crumb mixture, cover with foil and bake at 300 degrees for 30 minutes. Increase heat to 375, remove foil and bake until golden brown.
